Portrait of Jan de Bosch and Margaretha Kroon
Adriaan de Lelie, in or after 1800
The Mennonite De Bosch family played an important role in the Amsterdam art world. Collector and art dealer Jan de Bosch poses here with his wife Margaretha Kroon in the art gallery in their home. A bust of the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius bears witness to their interest in antiquity, while paintings by Jacob de Wit (1695-1754) on the easel and on the wall bespeak their love of art.
