Plate with the Van Beeftingh Family Coat of Arms

Schalkius van Beeftingh founded a sugar refinery in Rotterdam in the early 18th century, which remained in the family until 1841. The Van Beeftingh van der Dussen family, with its combination of surnames, played an important role in Rotterdam’s city council and were important art collectors. Their marks are found on some syrup pots excavated in that city in 2021.

  • Description

    Bord van porselein, beschilderd op het glazuur in blauw, rood, roze, groen, zwart en goud. Op het plat het wapen van de familie Van Beeftingh. Het wapen heeft een zwarte achtergrond met daarop een eenhoorn afgebeeld. Het helmteken is een kroon. Aan weerzijde van het wapen staan twee eenhoorns afgebeeld, staande op een voetstuk van bladwerk. Op de wand een spearhead-border en op de rand een Europese decoratieve band met schelpmotieven en ranken. Wapenporselein met emailkleuren.
