anonymous, anonymous, c. 1550 - c. 1599

This plate was made in the town of Iznik in western Anatolia. Its decoration copies that of the Chinese plate displayed alongside, but in a looser, more fluid style. Chinese porcelain greatly influenced the ceramics industry in Iznik, for Chinese blue-and-white porcelain was highly valued by the Ottoman court in Istanbul.

    Schotel van kwarts-frit met een accolade-vormige rand, bedekt met een wit slib en beschilderd in onderglazuur blauw. Op het plat een druivenrank. De rand met achtmaal een bloemrank. Op de rand een band met cirkels met hierin een uitgespaard wolkmotief. De achterzijde met vijf bloemranken. Een barst in de schotel. Iznik.
