Plaque with a Portrait of a Man

attributed to Léonard Limosin, c. 1525 - c. 1575

In his day Léonard Limosin was one of the best-known portraitists in enamel. His work was popular at the French court where he made likenesses of various members of the Bourbon dynasty. The unknown sitter portrayed here was probably a courtier.

    Plaquette, rechthoekig, versierd met portret van een onbekende man in zwart gewaad met blauwe ogen, lichtkleurige baard en snor. Op het hoofd een laag, zwart hoofddeksel. Email op koper, op een donkerblauwe grond.
