Philips Radio
Joris Ivens, 1931
In 1931 the Dutch electronics company Philips commissioned Dutch cinematographer Joris Ivens to make a promotional film with sound. The talking picture was a new invention, in keeping with a company interested in modern mass consumption. The subject of the short is the production process of radios and loudspeakers. The camera registers the rhythm of the machines’ interaction with the activities of the factory workers.
