Pamphlet

Jan Petrus Ponstijn, 1917

In 1917, Amsterdam was the scene of a popular uprising. There were protests, looting, and wildcat strikes. The riot was quashed, and live shots were fired. In all, nine people were killed. The artist Jan Ponstijn used this pamphlet to express his criticism of police brutality. He denounced the city government as a ‘blood regime.
