Pair of double-gourd vases

De Drie Posteleyne Astonne, 1700

The form of these vases, resembling a double gourd, is often found in Chinese porcelain. It was so popular that a number of Delft potteries copied it. This pair of vases features an exceptionally narrow neck and Asian decoration with what is known in the West as ‘Long Elizas’ (elongated female figures).
