Painters’ academy

Pierfrancesco Alberti (mentioned on object), 1594 - 1638

Sculptural models were particularly important as practice material for young artists. In the left background of this studio a youngster is drawing the model of a leg from a low vantage point. Casts of a hand and a foot from sculptures by Michelangelo rest on the middle of a shelf on the back wall. One of Van der Schardt’s models is a reduced version of that hand.
