Painter in his Workshop

Adriaen van Ostade, 1645 - 1649

All the changes to the copper plate that can be seen in these three impressions were made by Adriaen van Ostade himself. In the first state, the details were still somewhat even and flat. In the third state, he added many new lines to enhance the contrast and introduced some more details. And, in the fifth state, Van Ostade included a scholarly Latin description celebrating the diligent painter.
