Getting started with the collection:
Nude Woman (Tientje Smalt)
Aat Veldhoen, 1956 - c. 1960
Aat Veldhoen is a true draughtsman and utterly obsessed with women. ‘I think there is nothing more beautiful on the face of this earth than women,’ he said 30 years ago in an interview in Playboy. The model in this drawing is Veldhoen’s cousin Tientje Smalt. He captured her on paper with genuine attention. Like Rembrandt, Veldhoen, in his studies of female nudes, is more readily an explorer than an aesthete.
