New York City

Joel Meyerowitz, 1963

The American photographer Meyerowitz called his penchant for the street an addiction. In the midst of urban hustle and bustle he was able to capture a striking composition in a split second, such as this one during a parade in New York. Meyerowitz did not photograph the procession, but rather a group of people watching it. Their movements and the direction in which they look determine the dynamic of the image. Life on the street itself thus becomes the main subject.
