Explanatory note

  • Blad uit de Wereldkroniek, of Codex Cockerell, met portretten van negen beroemde mannen uit de Oudheid, naar Leonardo da Besozzo. De portretserie staat bekend als de 'Uomini famosi'; Cockerell was de voormalige bezitter. De 'Uomini famosi' is een geïllumineerd handschrift bestaand uit 38 bladen met meer dan 200 figuren uit de Bijbel, de mythologie, en de klassieke en middeleeuwse geschiedenis. Verwantschap met miniaturen van Jean Fouquet (vRA). Cat. tent. Meermanno, 2002.
