Narcissus

Crispijn van de Passe (I) (mentioned on object), 1602 - 1607

Van de Passe did not want to underscore the tragedy and infidelity that come with love, but instead wished to warn young people of these hazards. The caption emphasizes the moral lesson of Narcissus’ story, namely that like him, many people are too egotistical. The narcissus on the right alludes to the fate awaiting Narcissus.
