Model of a Winch

Schetsmodel van twee kaapstanders met raderwerk in een houten frame dat twee dekken voorstelt. De kaapstanders hebben een gladde trommel. Met een kruk en horizontale tandwielen wordt de eerste kaapstander met een ratio van 16/1 aangedreven. In de hiel van de kaapstanders zitten tandwielen, die de beweging van de eerste kaapstander in een ratio van 1/4 op de tweede overbrengen. De eerste kaapstander heeft ook gaten voor tien windbomen in de kop; de tweede bestaat alleen uit een trommel.

Schematic demonstration model of two smooth barrelled capstans with gear trains on a wooden frame, representing two decks of a ship. A gear train of horizontal cogwheels is driven with a crank, turning the first capstan at a ratio of 16:1. Gears in the base of the capstans transfer the movement from the first capstan to the second, at a ratio of 1:4. The first capstan has holes for ten bars in the head; the second consists of a barrel only.
