Rijkswerf Vlissingen, 1849

Model van een lucht- en lichtkoker. Model van een deel van een scheepswand, op een grondplank. De scheepswand bestaat uit de huid, twee inhouten en de wegering; de ruimte tussen de inhouten is de luchtkoker, voorzien van een rooster. De luchtkoker komt uit in een diepe conische patrijspoort, die geheel met messing is bekleed. Het licht van de patrijspoort bestaat uit een rond glas met de bolle, matte kant naar buiten en in de huid verzonken. Schaal 1:4 (schaal op model).

  • Dit model stelt een lucht- en lichtkoker voor als op de korvet van 28 stukken Atalante, gebouwd in Vlissingen in 1842-1849 (herdoopt Prins Maurits der Nederlanden in 1850, wachtschip in Vlissingen vanaf 1869, uit dienst in 1905).

Entry

Construction model of a section of the side of a ship, mounted on a rectangular base.

The side of the model consists of the planking, two frames and the ceiling. Between the frames there is a ventilation shaft with a grating, coming out into the funnel-shaped gun port with portlight. The gun port frame is sheathed with brass. The portlight is round with a frosted convex side, countersunk so as not to protrude beyond the wall of the ship.

This model represents a ventilation shaft with sidelight as seen on the 28-gun sloop of war Atalante, built in Flushing from 1842 to 1849 (renamed Prins Maurits der Nederlanden in 1850, guard ship in Flushing from 1869 onwards, decommissioned in 1905).2A.J.
