Explanatory note

  • Dit model voor zinken kanonslotdeksels, ter vervanging van de platloden voor geschut met slot, werd in 1825 door P. Schuijt naar Den Haag gestuurd. Aan het fregat Rupel en de korvet Arend zouden in 1825 koperen slotdeksels verstrekt worden, maar om onbekende redenen ging dit niet door. In 1830 stelde Sesseler voor ze van lood te laten vervaardigen. In 1832 werden in Vlissingen zinken deksels besteld. Het model werd daarna in de modellenverzameling geplaatst.

Brass breech cover with a raised section for a flintlock, and a knob on top.

This model for zinc lock covers was sent to The Hague by Pieter Schuijt Juniorsz (1797-1885) in 1825,1HNA 2.12.01 Min. Marine, Exh. 3/2/1825 N7. as a replacement for the aprons, which could not be used on guns with locks. Brass lock covers were to be issued to the frigate Rupel and the sloop of war Arend in 1825,2HNA 2.12.01 Min. Marine, Exh. 8/4/1825 N74. but for unknown reasons this did not happen. In 1830, Sesseler proposed them to be made out of lead.3HNA 2.12.01 Min. Marine, Exh. 7/4/1830 N19, 16/9/1830 N56. In 1832, zinc covers were ordered in Flushing.4HNA 2.12.01 Min. Marine, Exh. 2/2/1832 N59, 7/3/1832 N24, 3/3/1832 N48. Later, the model was added to the Navy Model Room.5HNA 2.12.01 Min. Marine, Exh. 19/9/1832 N7.
