Model of a Lifeboat Release

Rijkswerf Vlissingen (possibly), 1857 - c. 1858

Model van een deel van een scheepswand met een sloep aan twee spijkerdavits. Het model demonstreert de sloepsval in de sloep. Het takel, dat van een braadspil onder de middelste doft over een aantal schijven loopt, is onvolledig en de werking blijft onduidelijk. De sloep is een gladboordige dubbelriems sloep met platte spiegel, gepiekt rondspant en zeeg naar beide uiteinden oplopend; hij heeft zeven doften.

Entry

Polychromed model of part of a ship’s side with a launch hanging from two crescent-type davits.

The model demonstrates the release mechanism of the launch, but the tackle, coming from a windlass underneath the middle thwart and running through a number of sheaves, is damaged and its operation is unclear. The launch is a carvel built, square-ended, double banked launch. It is S-bottomed and the sheer comes up at both ends. It has seven thwarts.

Scale unknown.
