Model of a Lifeboat Release

Model van een deel van een scheepswand met een sloep aan twee spijkerdavits. Het model demonstreert de sloepsval in de bodem van de sloep, waarbij twee haken aan het takel van de davits worden losgelaten door middel van een hendel in de kajuit. De sloep is een gladboordige dubbelriems sloep met platte spiegel, de zeeg bijna vlak; hij heeft vier doften met spoorstokken, dollen voor acht roeiers en een open kajuit. Een aantal fittingen op het model blijft onduidelijk.

Entry

Polychromed model of part of a ship’s side with a launch hanging from two crescent-type davits.

The model demonstrates the release mechanism in the bottom of the launch: two hooks hold the tackle of the davit forward and aft, and are released by means of a handle in the cockpit. The launch is a carvel built, square-ended double-banked launch, the sheer is almost flat; it has four thwarts with stretchers, rowlocks for eight oars and an open cockpit. The purpose of some of the launch’s fittings remain unclear.

According to the transfer list of 1889, this model was designed specifically for fishing boats.
