Model of a Gig

Rijkswerf Vlissingen, 1836

Getuigd spantmodel op een standaard. Overnaadse enkelriems giek, rondspant met platte spiegel; een voorplecht, vier doften en spoorstokken, open kajuit met zijdoften en een hennegat. Eenvoudig roer met een gekrulde messing helmstok. Het model heeft één mast met emmerzeil, op het voorplecht een vlaggestok. Slechts de loopgang is bewaard gebleven. Schaal 1:20 (schaal op model).

Entry

Rigged frame model of a gig with sails mounted on a stand.

Clinker-built, single-banked gig with a round bottom and a square stern (flat with a skeg). The model has a fore cuddy, four thwarts with stretchers, an open cockpit with side benches and an aft cuddy. At the stern a basic rudder with a curved brass tiller is indicated. The rigging consists of a single dipping lugsail, with a flagpole in the fore cuddy. Only the gangway has been preserved.

The model represents a 7.36-metre-long gig, constructed according to the regulations of the Dutch Navy of 1828.1J.M. Obreen, Catalogus der verzameling modellen van het Departement van Marine, The Hague 1858, no. 686; HNA 2.12.01 Min. Marine, Res. 20/11/1828 N9.
