Model of a Capstan

Model van een kaapstander op een houten vloer. Het is een kaapstander voor acht windbomen en heeft vier pallen in de hiel tegen het teruglopen. De trommel heeft vier 'Brown'-klampen (vgl. NG-MC-195). De koning, die met een vierkante hiel vastzit in de vloer en waaromheen de trommel draait, is van messing en is onder de dekplaten van de kop geborgd met een moer; de vloer is aanzienlijk verstevigd. Schaal 1:10 (volgens Obreen).

Entry

Construction model of a capstan, mounted on a base representing a wooden deck.

The capstan is for eight bars and has four pawls in the heel to prevent it from turning back. The barrel has four ‘Brown’ whelps. These whelps are quite shallow in the middle but thicker and wider near the head and the heel of the barrel, and are covered with metal sheathing. The brass spindle has a square heel fixed in the deck and the barrel turns around it; it is secured with a bolt at the top, underneath the cover of the head; the deck is considerably reinforced.
