Model of a Boiler for Steam Locomotives

anonymous, 1863

Entry

Model of a tubular boiler, a variation of model NG-MC-1162. Two furnaces are separated by a room in which pipes connect the furnaces. The air draught of one furnace can be regulated by a flap at the front. The gases go from this furnace through the pipes to the other, which is shut in order to assure that the air can only come in through the first furnace. Through a system of pipes, the gases are then led to the front where the funnel should be joined. The remaining space in the model is intended for boiler water.

This patent model was a gift from L.E.C. (Emile) Martin to the Department of the Navy. It was patented for Martin, who lived in Paris at the time, by D. van den Bosch in the Netherlands in 1863 and in the United Kingdom in 1864. This boiler was intended for locomotives.
