Standing before a writing desk, this man reflects on what he wishes to pen. He wears a sumptuous 16th-century costume with a costly cloak draped over his right shoulder. His face is executed with great refinement; however his identity is unknown. Rembrandt often portrayed his clients dressed à l’antique.
