Machine

Shinkichi Tajiri (signed by artist), 1971

In these silkscreens, Shinkichi Tajiri brought to life the imaginary war machines he had created several years earlier. On view in the next gallery is his sculpture Made in USA, which figures in this print. Tajiri lived in the Netherlands from 1956 and, as an American war veteran, protested the violence of the Vietnam War. In terms of their style, these prints reflect elements in the work of his compatriot Roy Lichtenstein.
