Low ‘Beugel’ (Bow) chair for Dora Mees

Gerrit Thomas Rietveld, 1939

It is remarkable that this variation on the Bow Chair (adjacent) was not made by Gerrit Rietveld’s regular furniture maker but instead by the architecture students Dora Mees and Jan Rietveld while they were interning with the architect. They made three such chairs in different sizes. Dora Mees became an interior designer and kept this one throughout her life. Rietveld senior and junior Rietveld owned the other two.
