Sluijters uses the Bible story of Samson and Delilah as a metaphor for a political power game. The man lying on the bed represents the Colonies, just like Samson seduced and disempowered by Delilah. She is the League of Nations, the predecessor to the United Nations. From behind the curtain, the American President Woodrow Wilson encourages Delilah to take on the communists now too.
