Le Cadran (The Clock Face)

Jeanne Bieruma Oosting (signed by artist), c. 1935 - c. 1940

Her parents’ strong objections notwithstanding, Jeanne Bieruma Oosting lived and worked in Paris from 1929 to 1940. Her work evinces a great interest in the city in all its manifestations: from large traffic squares and chic boulevards to narrow backstreets. The tenor of this etching is typical of her Parisian work: dark and romantic, with a melancholic undertone.
