Landscape with a Cow Drinking

Rembrandt van Rijn, c. 1650

Once again Rembrandt devised an imaginary combination of elements in which topographical accuracy plays no role. The house, typically found in the surroundings of Amsterdam, is set at the foot of a rock formation. In addition to these rocks, two details stand out: a rowing boat with two men and a cow drinking water from the ditch.
