Landscape with a Cottage and a Hay Barn

Rembrandt van Rijn (mentioned on object), 1641

Rembrandt came upon this cottage on one of the walking routes from Amsterdam. To the right of it is Kostverloren, a country house along the River Amstel, and in the distance at the left can be seen the Amsterdam skyline. Rembrandt moulded the composition to his own taste. Kostverloren can be seen from this perspective only when viewers stand with their backs to Amsterdam.
