Shubun, c. 1500 - c. 1700

Mountain landscape by the water. Japan. 17th century. Ink on paper. Below right is the stamp of the famous painter Shubun (flourished 1414 -1463). However, the painting is a much later, respectful imitation of the master's style. This was not unusual in Chinese and Japanese art, where an artist was not always required to show originality. On loan from W.H. de Roos.

    Landschapschildering met het stempel van Shubun, zwarte inkt, met rechts op de voorgrond aan het water, rotsen, bomen en een huis, waarvan men een deel van het interieur kan zien en twee personen. Enkele personen op het pad en twee schepen afgemeerd bij de rots. Op de achtergrond hoge rotsen en een prauw. In houten doos.
