Kimono for an unmarried woman

This kimono’s decoration of rhythmically distributed blocks would have struck a highly modern chord in the 1920s. Relatively thick, raw silk was used for kimonos for everyday wear, available readymade in the shops. ‘Off the peg’ kimonos were a new phenomenon. Before then, people bought long lengths of fabric, which was cut to size and assembled.

    Informele vrouwen kimono met een patroon over het hele vlak van gedeeltelijk achter alkaar geplaatste rechthoeken, de bovenste versierd met geometrische motieven in vierkanten, tegen een rode achtergrond. Rode zijde met versiering in stencil-druk (meisen). Voering van witte en paars-bruine katoen.
