Kelp
Edward Weston (signed by artist), 1930-03-07
This ‘form study’ of kelp washed ashore is typical of Edward Weston’s Modernist photography. He took a series of photographs in Point Lobos, California, exploring lines, forms, and the texture of rocks, trees, and kelp. The seaweed’s rope-like shapes create an intriguing quasi-abstract pattern, an effect that is reinforced by the powerful contrasts of light and dark.
