Kedara Ragini
anonymous, c. 1750 - c. 1770
A young female ascetic sits near a fire, her head gracefully resting on her raised knee. In her right hand is a rosary. Her yellowish hair may reference the ascetic practice of applying cow's urine to it. However, her adornments betray her noble birth. Next to her, a servant prepares the hookah. The painting belongs to the Ragamala genre.
