Jug with the Amsterdam Coat-of-Arms

On the body of this jug are three ovals with the Amsterdam coat-of-arms. The jug was thus made especially for use in this city. It was produced for export in the German town of Raeren. In the ovals is the date [15]85. The letters IE stand for its maker, Jan Emens, an important Raeren stoneware pottery maker.

    Kruik van steengoed op hoge voet met een eivormig lichaam en wijde, geribde nek. Het C-vormige oor is bevestigd aan de nek en de schouder. Profielen op de voet. Bedekt met een bruine engobe. Op de buik in reliëf driemaal een gedrukt en opgelegd medaillon met het gekroonde wapen van Amsterdam, geflankeerd door leeuwen. Onderin het opschrift 'AMSTER' en bovenin de datum '85'. Raeren.
