Houses in Pyongyang

attributed to Jan Adriani, 1907

These images are from the estate of the Utrecht deacon Jan Adriani. He made them on a missionary trip he undertook together with his wife, the artist Elizabeth Adriani-Hovy, in 1907. The journey took them through Japan, China, and other countries in Asia. He shot these fascinating, picturesque photographs while waiting for his appointment with the consul in Pyongyang.
