Heron in Flight
Étienne-Jules Marey, 1887
Marey’s photography lies at the intersection of science, technology, and photography. In 1890, he published a hefty study of birds in full flight: Le Vol des Oiseaux. The book is full of his research experiments, anatomical drawings of birds, mathematical formulas, and tables.
