Hansje Langhout bij haar poppenhuis

attributed to Cornelia Hendrika Jonker, 1893

The names of over 1080 Dutch amateurs from the period up to 1900 are known, men for the most part. We know of only sixty Dutch women photographers from the period, including Corrie Jonker. She portrayed her sisters young daughter, and charming ‘tableaux’ on the river and at the beach. They are the earliest try-outs by one of the few women whose photographs have survived.
