Gepolychromeerd mallenmodel (stuurboord) van een tweemaster. Voorschip uitgewerkt met galjoen en schegbeeld van een vergulde krul. De huid boven het barkhout is gesloten, tien geschilderde geschutpoorten op één dek. Gewrongen spiegel, hol wulf, hek met één licht en uitstekend buiten de scheepswand, geen zijgalerij; recht roer met vierkante roerkoning. Zeeg naar voor en achter iets oplopend, één barkhout. Het model heeft twee rusten met alle jufferblokken. Gepiekt rondspant. Schaal 1:40 (schaal op model).

Glavimans Jz. te Rotterdam naar dit model gebouwd: de Zwaluw, (1816-1817, niet genoemd na 1837), de Kemphaan (1818-1821, afgekeurd en omgebouwd tot logementschip in Hellevoetsluis in 1841), de Valk (1822-1824, afgekeurd in 1840 en omgebouwd tot ziekenschip in Hellevoetsluis in 1841), de Echo (1824-1827, niet genoemd na 1854), de Pegasus (1827-1830, gesloopt in Hellevoetsluis in 1851), de Merkuur (1830-1833) en de Venus (1833-1836, niet genoemd na 1868).

Entry

Polychromed wooden half bracket model of the starboard side of a two-masted ship, mounted on a rectangular red, wooden backboard.

The side of the ship is depicted by ribbands attached to frame moulds. Above the wale the side is planked and painted black. Ten shadowed gun ports are painted on the side, indicating one continuous gun deck, highlighted by a horizontal yellow band. At the forecastle and stern two raised bulwarks with square hances are indicated. The sheer rises towards both ends. One wale is indicated. The bow features a fully detailed beakhead, with a gold-painted scroll as a billethead, and a black knighthead. The stern has a round tuck and a hollow counter. The taffrail has one light and protrudes beyond the ship’s length. Below the stern a straight, square-headed rudder is indicated. The hull is S-bottomed and painted white below the waterline. The model has two sets of channels rigged with deadeyes and chainplates. The position of two masts and the bowsprit, all painted white, is shown in a truncated form. Ahead of the main channel the entering steps are visible.

Seven 18-gun 30-pounder brigs, 29.8 metres long, were built after this design by Pieter Glavimans Jansz (1768-1850) in Rotterdam:1J.M. Zwaluw (1816-17, not mentioned after 1837), Kemphaan (1818-21, decommissioned and converted to a receiving ship in Hellevoetsluis in 1841), Valk (1822-24, decommissioned in 1840 and converted to a hospital ship in Hellevoetsluis in 1841), Echo (1824-27, not mentioned after 1854), Pegasus (1827-30, broken up in Hellevoetsluis in 1851), Merkuur (1830-33) and Venus (1833-36, not mentioned after 1868).2A.J.
