Entry

Polychromed wooden half bracket model of the starboard side of a two-masted vessel, mounted on a framed rectangular black painted wooden backboard.

The side of the ship is depicted by ribbands attached to frame moulds, above the wale the side is planked. Eight black painted gun ports are recessed into the side, placed in one tier. The rail cap is painted black. The bow features an empty beakhead, with two cheeks indicated and a black painted cathead. The figurehead is missing, based on its silhouette it was a standing figure. The stern has a round tuck, a hollow counter, a taffrail with three and a half lights and a scalloped upper side that protrudes from the ship’s side. Below the stern is a straight, square-headed rudder. The sheer rises towards both ends. One wale is indicated, painted black. The hull is V-shaped and painted white below the waterline. The model has two sets of channels. The position of two masts and the bowsprit is shown in a truncated form.

The scale was calculated according to the length in Amsterdam feet. In Rotterdam feet the scale would come to 1:58. The 16-gun brig Atalante, 115 feet long, was built in 1796 in Flushing by a shipwright named Priel.1HNA 1.01.47.36 Admiraliteitscolleges, Losse Aanwinsten, inv. no. 17, Genealogie Asmus.
