Goblet and Cover

anonymous, c. 1580

This goblet comes from the Russian Imperial Romanov family. The heirs of Nikitich Romanov (c. 1560-1645) bequeathed this goblet to his distant cousin, the second Romanov tsar Alexei Michailowitsj (1629-1676). It was displayed during grand state functions, and underscored the family’s power and age until 1918, after which its coat of arms was removed.

    Ovale coupe van bergkristal in een montuur van verguld zilver. Alle delen van bergkristal zijn geribd. Op het deksel een kristallen knop gevat in een montuur met vier vrouwelijke hermen, op de top een adelaar met blank wapenschild.
