Four Crows in a Tree

Mano Kyōtei, c. 1900 - c. 1925

Kyōtei was known for his paintings of crows, which he characterized most aptly. He laid down the birds’ gleaming plumage on the silk with pitch-black strokes of ink, while the branches of the tree are painted in various tones of grey to create depth.
