Figurines

anonymous, c. 1680 - c. 1720

Delft potters used the same moulds for figures in red stoneware as they did for those in the better-known blue-and-white earthenware. These figurines demonstrate how Chinese forms were reimagined in an independent way. The model for these figures may have been the Buddhist deity Arhat, only here reinterpreted and moulded in Dutch clay.
