Facing for a firedog with the monogram of Prince William III

Firedogs, or andirons, were used to stack logs in an open fireplace. They were often fitted with a decorative facing. This exceptionally sumptuous example is Baroque in form and ornamented with the arms of Stadtholder William III. In Het Loo Palace there was also a Delftware firedog for William’s consort, Mary.
