Executioners’ swords of the Court of Holland

anonymous, c. 1500 - c. 1599

Prisoners condemned to death were beheaded with heavy, double-edged swords such as these. These swords were used by the executioner of the Court of Holland in The Hague, where justice was administered on behalf of the Count of Holland.
