Evening Dress

Erté, c. 1922 - c. 1924

In the 1920s the silhouette became straighter and the natural waistline was ignored. The Russian-French designer Romain de Tirtoff (Erté) designed this evening gown for a fashion house in San Francisco. The fabric is woven of silver-plated copper thread and embroidered with coloured glass beads and pearls. The stylized Persian and Egyptian motifs were all the rage thanks to the discovery of Tutankhamun’s grave in 1922.

    Avondjapon van zilverlamé met kralen in roze, lichtblauw en zwart en kunstparels, met Perzische motieven. De lamé is geweven met een draad met een katoenen kern waar omheen een strip van verzilverd koper. Op een aantal plaatsen is de stof verkleurd en bevinden zich groenachtige plekken. De schouderspartij was vermaakt en is bij de conservering in 2014 teruggebracht naar het oorspronkelijke model.
