Eva Besnyö (1910-2003)

attributed to Eva Besnyö, c. 1929

In the 1920s and 30s the development of photography in the Netherlands was greatly spurred by the many international contacts with artists who had emigrated from Germany. Paul Citroen and Erwin Blumenfeld settled here. Besnyö left Budapest and went to Berlin to learn the craft of photography. In 1932 she moved to Amsterdam for good, and went on to become one of the Netherlands’ most famous photographers.
