An Excavation Full of Teapots
attributed to Jacobus de Caluwe, c. 1700 - c. 1725
In the early 18th century, the Delft potter Jacobus de Caluwe experimented with innovative forms of teapots based on examples from Yixing. These teapots were excavated at the very site where De Caluwe had his factory. They exhibit a wide variety, ranging from traditional red stoneware items to new creations with glaze in different colours.
