Draak

anonymous, c. 1600 - c. 1700

In China there are many different kinds of dragons. This example with a fish in its mouth is probably a chiwen, a type of dragon known for its love of water and swallowing things. It is often used as an architectural element on the side of a roof, where it symbolically serves to devour evil influences and ward off fire.
