Double Portrait of the Brothers Konrad and Franz Eberhard, Painter and Sculptor

Johann Anton Ramboux (mentioned on object), 1822

Ramboux made few portraits, and then mostly of friends and colleagues. The friendship portrait genre was popular among German Romantics. The simplicity they so loved is manifest in this iconic example: no attributes, hand gestures or caresses are needed. The fact that the sitters are depicted shoulder to shoulder and that Franz is looking at his brother is sufficient to emphasize their close ties.
