The decoration on this dish depicts the story of The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl, the romance between Niulang and Zhinu. It also refers to a classic Chinese proverb: ‘men plough, women weave.’ This applies not only to the practical male-female division of labour, but also to the place of women in society as a whole

    Schaal van porselein met ronde wand, beschilderd op het glazuur in blauw, rood, roze, groen, geel, bruin, zwart en goud. Op de voorzijde een paviljoen bij een rivier met een herder, zijn os aan een boom gebonden, en een weefster in het paviljoen, een tweede vrouw kijkt om de hoek van het kozijn; de binnenrand met lotusranken. Famille rose.
