Dish

anonymous, c. 1000 - c. 1199

This stoneware dish is decorated with a wave motif created by incising and combing the clay. The dish was then provided with a green glaze, called celadon. The depth of the carving determines the range of shades and creates attractive variations in the colour. This kind of olive-green glaze is typical of stoneware from Yaozhou kilns in Shaanxi Province.
